If the "drift" error and Adams real gold dollar coins from the mistakes of Washington or are "fakes made by man"?
I am not a coin collector, but I have recently purchased a total of $ 4 Morgan Silver e-bay. Although I have spent a total of $ 50. for These four coins have advised me to stop buying any more coins on eBay. I followed this advice, but recently I have noticed a large number of coins offered on e-bay stating that these coins (from the Philadelphia Mint) $ 2,007 gold is "offset" error of Washington and Adams coins? Many people are bidding on these coins @ $ 19.95 from $ 39.95 offer to buy it now! price. I was wondering if these are real "error" coins or were more likely intentional man made errors "by unscrupulous sellers? If they are real … are considered collectible? If so, What are they worth? Finally ….. as far as my present circumstances require that I can not see a coin dealer …… Are there any good sites good Internet reputation to buy U.S. coins of different Mint?
I will say this about the advertisers in Coin World and Numismatic News … do not buy coins from several pages to advertisers unless they are from the U.S. Mint in its original packaging (sets of tests, etc.) And I agree that you should not buy coins on eBay as a novice collector. I have read too many sad stories of collectors who began buying coins on eBay only to discover many $ $ $ later than you paid horribly. But if you paid $ 50 for 4 Morgan Silver Dollars, and are authentic (not reproductions), did well. All mail order dealers who advertise in both papers offer a return policy if not satisfied, but there are many advertisers who sell junk expensive and we hope that the buyer is so uninformed they do not know enough to come back for a refund. It is difficult to recommend specific dealers, not knowing what of coins you are interested in. You will be fine buying coins Mint U.S., and sure have a lot of different things to sell. But I ask you not to do so with the hope of making a profit. It's great if it works that way, but in my experience of people who are in the currencies in the hope to make money are not successful. You might consider joining the American Numismatic Association http://www.money.org and tap its huge library, where you can borrow books through the mail for the cost of postage only. They also offer (at a cost) courses you can take to help you increase your knowledge. There may even coin club in your area who can join (and are ready ANA) which most likely is that you put in contact with people who could help you get started with the collection, avoiding the pitfalls. A further recommendation, which you can easily do, would be to start reading the bulletin board at the site PCGS http://forums.collectors.com/categories.cfm?catid=26, and also use the search feature to go through old messages. There are a lot of knowledge that was there, and that are friendly to new collectors with questions.
